Summer Arts Camp
Our annual Summer Arts camp will be held this year June 22 - June 25, 9 am - 2:30 pm at the Berlin Intermediate School.
Registration form will be available in mid April.
At the present time, we are accepting proposals form artists and art teachers interested in instructing workshops during the Arts Camp. Teachers will be instructing 3 sessions of same workshop daily. Each workshop will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes with snack or lunch breaks in between. Arts Camp will culminate with performances and exhibits of artwork created during the week of the program
Instructor's compensation for the program is $500.00 plus reimbursement for the supplies. If you are interested in teaching, please complete and submit the WORKSHOP PROPOSAL to our office no later than March 20th.
The goal of our Summer Arts Camp program is to help area children improve themselves while having fun engaging in art activities. Involving children in self-expression and creative discovery engenders an enthusiasm for learning that has a positive impact on each child’s development.
Over the past 26 years, the Summer Arts Camp has grown in popularity! This year more than 100 campers, grades 3 – 8 who participated in this program, had an opportunity to experience not only the visual arts, but also music, dance, and theater arts.
Here is what our Campers say about their experience:
“I like the Camp because we could be Very creative and I made some Very cool things!” – Julia Carlson
“Painting with pulp is my favorite class because it is fun and inspiring!” – Julia Snyder
“I got to experience a new technique in drawing and it was a lot of fun!” – Morgan Schoch
“I liked the Musical Theatre class! The teacher is nice and she shows us how to be a great actor/actress.” – Kim Koufman
In 2015 Summer Arts Camp included 9 various art workshops instructed by professional art teachers and artists assisted by 10 volunteers. The volunteers are often teens who have enjoyed attending the camp in prior years or senior citizens who love the arts and find it rewarding working with children.
The week-long camp culminates each year with a one-hour gathering of family and friends to view exhibits of the final works of art and to enjoy the performances by the music, dance and drama classes. The celebration allows children to enjoy an art experience that takes them from learning about the process of art form to designing their own original piece, and finally to showing or performing the finished product.
The Arts Council is grateful for the support for this program provided by the Ocean City/Berlin Optimists Club and donations of patrons of the Council.
