‘Sound of Nature Artist’ Jiyeong Yun
I am ‘Sound of Nature’ artist Jiyeong Yun The inspiration for this exhibition springs from a respect for life. Through my art, it is my goal to communicate the language of nature through sound.
If humans respect each other and nature, their actions are likely to be affected. Humans and nature are vital to our existence. Our peaceful coexistence starts from respect. Respect for nature and each other will inspire a positive change in our world. The hope for my art is to transform you into the peaceful sound and beauty of nature.
Biography: Born in South Korea, Jiyeong Yun enjoyed painting and dreamed of becoming an artist since childhood. She majored in fine arts and went on to study art education in graduate school. In 2005, her first exhibition, “Blue Rain,” feature the video installation of the sound of rain filmed in various locations over six months. The exhibition showcased how the rain’s auditory, visual, and olfactory elements illustrate the synesthesia between humans and the natural world, later adapted into an exhibit for children. Throughout her twenties and thirties, Yun increasingly took on the role of an art educator. Since 2000, she has taught lecturers at art academies and high schools and valued her role as an exhibition docent at a city art museum, in which she communicated with many visitors.
When her family immigrated to Ocean Pines in the United States in 2017, Yun experienced a turning point in her life, her new environment afforded her the opportunity to be even closer to nature. Her first work in the U.S. “Twinkling Leaves II,” expresses her communion with the natural world. For the past three years, she has continued to exhibit her work at the Worcester County Arts Council, the Rehoboth Art League, and the Art League of Ocean City.
