Worcester County Arts Council - Administrative Assistant
Sharon was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools graduating from Western High School and receiving her B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Towson State College. She began teaching in public and private schools and continued for over thirty years in Baltimore, Carroll, Prince George’s, and Worcester Counties. Her graduate work includes education studies at Trinity College and Media Technology at Towson University. Mrs. Sorrentino’s classroom experience includes three and four-year-olds, kindergarten, third and fifth grades, and media center and computer lab for grades K-8, and Adult Education in the Worcester County Public Schools. She is currently the administrative assistant at the Worcester County Arts Council and works approximately 12 hours a week. Being involved with the Worcester County Arts Council as a board member/officer and volunteer for over thirteen years has given Mrs. Sorrentino a close-up view of the arts in Worcester County.
Her vision is for the Worcester County Arts Council to keep promoting all aspects of the arts throughout Worcester County through grants, scholarships, Plein Air, artists in education, special and juried shows in our gallery, and exhibits in the Berlin Library Gallery. She also would like to see expansion and addition of programs through interaction with the many non-profit organizations and schools in the county. This will increase outreach efforts to children, adults, the disabled, and people of all ethnicities.
Music has always been an integral part of Mrs. Sorrentino’s life. Singing in church, school, and community functions started when she was five. She has sung with choral societies in Carroll, Prince George’s, and Worcester Counties, with the Pine Tones, and is currently singing in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church’s Choir and other churches when requested. She has also played bells at St. Peter’s and Atlantic United Methodist Church. Performing and assisting with community theater groups has also fulfilled her love for the theater. Mrs. Sorrentino most recently assisted with the Ocean Pines Children’s Theater production of Mean Girls, JR.
