Biography
My love of art began at a very early age. As an only child, I’d spend hours coloring or doodling. Even today, I enjoy many creative outlets along with painting. I was born and raised in Worcester County and have a deep love and appreciation for the traditions and culture of the Eastern Shore. Most of my subjects are landscapes, shore, or farm scenes that make up the fabric of everyday life. I love exploring different techniques as I learn and grow as an artist. Although I don’t have any formal art education, I have been fortunate to have taken several classes from local artists who’ve generously shared their time and expertise with me over the years.
My first love is watercolor, but I also enjoy painting in oil, acrylic, and gouache. In 2014, the first Shorescapes calendar was “born,” printed, and is still going strong today. Twelve landscape paintings are chosen each year, and I pair them with applicable scriptures to hopefully create an inspirational and visually pleasing monthly mini-exhibit of my recent works. Recently, I’ve done some hand-lettering projects as well as oyster shell ornaments in a variety of designs. As I continue to work full time for Worcester County Public Schools, I look forward to having more time to devote to my art and even teach lessons or workshops once I retire.
My studio is in our home on the family farm in Bishopville, MD, where I live with my husband, Stuart, and our critters.
